Armor of God

Helmet of Salvation and Sword of the Spirit
God’s Word is powerful. Hebrews 4:13-14 (NIV) says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”

SHield of Faith
We need to trust God to fight our battles, but we also have to ask him to join the fight. When we are in it alone or fighting with the weapons of this world, the fiery darts will hit our weakest, most vulnerable parts. And they will sting extra bad. And with our shield of faith…we lose our faith. Lose our hope. And lose our trust in God.

Gospel of Peace
This week, put on the shoes of peace. And remember the only reason you have peace is because Jesus gave it to you because of the freedom of the Gospel message. His life. Death. Burial. And resurrection. The chasm has been bridged. Don’t you want others to join you on the other side where freedom reigns and peace is supreme?

Breastplate of Righteousness
The first two pieces of armor are the belt of truth and the breastplate of righteousness. These pieces of armor protect our heart and hold everything in place. Are we suiting up each morning with the armor of God? Or the weapons of the world?

Belt of Truth
Truth. Even though the words hurt, she spoke words filled with truth. I went home and journaled about our interaction and thanked God for opening my eyes. Then I thanked him for friends who told me the truth, even when it hurts.
In my mind, I saw myself tying a thin rope around my waist. It wasn’t a belt, by any means, but it was the simple start of wrapping truth around my waist. God’s truth. Unbreakable and unshakeable.

Suiting Up, Group/Introductory Lesson
We are active in this battle and we must choose a side. Are we going to be used as God’s tool for good or the enemy’s vessel for evil? If we are God’s, we must learn what it means to suit up every day in the armor of God. Join us this week as we visit Ephesians 6 and discuss the implementation of God’s armor in our educational systems around the United States.
